FG Extends FCT, Lagos and Ogun States Lockdown for one week: Reveals New national measures.



The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended its lockdown in FCT, Lagos and Ogun States  for one more week, as it set out measures to Commence phased and gradual easing of the lockdown effective from Monday, 4th May, 2020.

This was contained in a nationwide speech delivered by President Muhammadu Buhari on 27th April 2020.

The president further explained that the easing will be followed strictly with aggressive reinforcement of testing and contact tracing measures while allowing the restoration of some economic and business activities in certain sectors.

Furthermore, it announced a new nationwide measures to be introduced as follows;

  • There will be an overnight curfew from 8pm to 6am. This means all movements will be prohibited during this period except for essential services;
  • There will be a ban on non-essential inter-state passenger travel until further notice;
  • Partial and controlled interstate movement of goods and services will be allowed for the movement of goods and services from producers to consumers; and
  • We will strictly ensure the mandatory use of face masks or coverings in public in addition to maintaining physical distancing and personal hygiene. Furthermore, the restrictions on social and religious gatherings shall remain in place. He further encouraged State Governments, corporate organisations and philanthropists to support the production of cloth masks for citizens.

However, this nationwide guidelines do not apply to Kano state which has been put on two weeks total lockdown effective immediately. 

The president thanked all religious and traditional leaders for their support and urged them to continue raising aware on the seriousness of the ongoing pandemic among their worshipers and communities and the need to adhere to the laid down lockdown measures by the federal government.
